A few days ago, I led a hike to Eastman Lake at the Wildlife Management Area. The trail is located in the Madera county, west side of Eastman Lake. The trail was right along the lake.
I would rate this trail moderate. Not too hard and not to easy. It was just about right. The trail was short. I would say it’s roughly 2 miles. What I love about this trail was the wild flowers and the view to the lake. It was calm and relaxing. Also, the foothills was amazing. I felt like I was in Scotland. The evergreen grass and the large boulders took me there, but I’m hoping, maybe one day, I would get a chance to tour Scotland and see beautiful mountain view.
Last but not least, my overall experience with the Wildlife Management Area was just a quick get away to relax, refresh, and renew myself.
After a week long of rain shower, it was a great idea take my toddlers and infant out for a family day hike for the very first time. I thought, what could go wrong taking my two toddlers and infant to a day hike? Maybe try it and find out how it goes. I do not want to go anywhere that is difficult and long. Especially going with toddlers and infant. So we went to Kaweah Oaks Preserve that is located near Visalia. We hiked on Elderberry trail. It’s so beautiful. It was very green after the rain. It was easy for my toddlers until we reached a fallen tree. I had to helped them climbed over it. They were so cute and adorable.
The down side of the hike was that both my toddlers were exhausted by the end of the trail. Unfortunately, we did not bring a stroller. We had to carry them both back to our vehicle, but who knew that a family day hike would be so fun! I love it and I can not wait to do more family day hikes with them.

Total trail hiked looped: 7.79 miles in 3 hours and 27 minutes burning 693 calories
Wind Wolves Preserve is part of the Wildlands Conservancy that is located in Bakersfield and is the largest non-profit at 93,000 acres. Also, the Tule elk were reintroduced to the preserve for reproduction and was off the extinction list. What I love about the trails was the canyon view. After the slight rain earlier in the week, the grass was green and the view to the canyon was spectacular. The mountain view was beautiful in the background. It was too surreal to take in the beautiful scene. The breeze was great against my skin even the sun was high up. The air was fresh and clean. Lastly, I have not seen 100 plus sheeps in person. The herd of sheep from afar looked like moving bushes. Usually to see this many sheeps would appear in a cartoon show or a night tv show, but to see this many sheeps was greatly appreciated. What I dislike about the trails was animal feces. The trails are animal friendly and many hikers brought their dogs for hikes, but it’s very uncomfortable to hike on a trail that has them on it. It made my trip cautious of the wet feces, hoping not to leave any under my shoes.
I would rate all three trails easy to moderate. There’s no strenuous trail to worry about starting from San Emigdio Canyon Trail. However, starting from Tule Elk Trail will be a challenge to hike and it’s about 1.25 miles until the trail get easy all the way.

The Wah Ki’o Trail is one of the nicest and relaxing trail that have beautiful landscape of table mountain, big meadow that goes far to the other side of the mountain and the view to the lake. The Wah Ki’o trail is located at the San Joaquin River Gorge Management Area.
The trail is approximately over 4 miles from the parking lot. What I love about the trail was the traffic. It was calm. There were many hikers to the Bridge trail, but as soon as I made the turn to the Wah Ki’o trail and hike further to the mountains, no other hikers came from the other side or came after, except for one biker. Another thing was the view to the mountain. Its structure and unique texture made it beautiful. It stood out from other mountains.
I did not complete the trail due to a free ranger that blocked the trail. I just needed half a mile to go and I’m done. Just half a mile! I moved in closer to the free ranger thinking it would move, but it didn’t budged. I stopped and turned back. Worst case scenario would be getting kicked in the face.
I hiked a total of 8 miles in 4 hours and 53 minutes burning 698 calories. I had fun. I was tire and burned out. The last mile to the parking lot was a killer. The trail goes up the mountain side. Boy, it was a great workout. I hope that one day, maybe later in the year, I will need to find a time to complete the Pa’san Ridge Trial. When it comes, I will be prepare for the challenge.

Big Sandy Bridge is located on the San Joaquin River Trail at the Millerton Lake State Recreation Area. Big Sandy Bridge is approximately 12.3 miles from the picnic area by Sky Harbor. Hiking to Big Sandy Bridge will take the whole day to complete, however there is a short 2 mile hike to get there by starting from the San Joaquin River Gorge Recreational Area.
What I like about this trail are the green mossy rocks. They gave me the feeling of being in an enchanted forest. I also like the view to the lake. The water was low during the winter season which you can see the rocks. The view from the bridge was beautiful, calm and peaceful with a little pond and moss.
What I don’t like about this trail is that it is boring. There are no exciting landscape. There are many dog and cow feces on the trail. It was unpleasant. There are a lot of trail runners due to an upcoming marathon event.
Unfortunately, the bridge is not what I thought it would be. I was hoping the bridge would be like the one at the Gorge with big green railing over my head and crosses the creek. It was a bit disappointing, but I have to remember that every trail is different.
I would rate this trail moderate to the bridge and strenuous back the Gorge. My total hike was 4.83 miles in 2 hours and 9 minutes, burning 409 calories.
